'Proper Tings' is an tribute to the reggae sound systems of old as well as the enduring influence of Drum and Bass, which was born from reggae and dub scenes.
The song is a mixture of live instrumentation such as a Warwick 5 string bass guitar, a Fender Jaguar electric guitar, a lovely Sonor SQ series 5 piece drum kit and an old church organ on verses (all played, engineered and recorded by producer, Mass!ve Dynam!c), blended with classic jungle/drum'n'bass loops, synths, classic Dub/Reggae radio sound bites and other electronica equipment on the choruses.
It features various vocalists located around the world - all recorded during the lockdown period:
The verse vocal hook is sung by UK based Ska singer, 'Leya, with the verse 'raps' featuring Jamaica-based reggaeton stalwart, Z Loop Z, and the New Zealand reggae singer, Hāmihi, delivers the 2nd verse.
The 13/8 timing signature chorus is added for a bit of fun by the producer, who is a big Progressive Rock/Metal fan.
The chorus features various classic reggae Sound System soundbites, as well as the soulful vocals of UK soul/jazz singer, Geoff Butterworth, singing the "Finally I can go on..." chorus hook.
Written and produced by Mass!ve Dynam!c (aka British dance/rock/metal/music producer, Benedict Harris-Hayes), all recorded, mixed and mastered during his recent stay in New Zealand.
